Origin:
- New Zealand
- Bred from New Zealand First Choice and Saaz, released in 2004
- Part of the modern NZ hop breeding program focused on robust, flavorful aroma hops
Type:
- Dual-purpose (high alpha, but loved for bold aroma and flavor)
Typical Alpha Acids:
- 12–14%
Beta Acids:
- 7–8%
Aroma & Flavor Notes:
- Spicy: Firm black pepper, soft ginger, and sweet spice (signature note)
- Citrus: Bright lemon/lime, a bit of orange peel, and tangy zest
- Pine: Fresh pine needle and gentle resin
- Herbal: Sweet cut grass, green tea, and a “clean” finishing herbal note
- Other: Sometimes floral touches, a hint of plum or stone fruit, and subtle earthy undertones
Brewing Characteristics:

- Excellent for late additions, whirlpool, and dry hopping in both lagers and ales
