Origin:
- United States
- Developed by the USDA breeding program and released in 1978
- Bred from Brewer’s Gold and open pollination
Type:
- Dual-purpose (primarily used for bittering, but also offers pleasant flavor/aroma)
Typical Alpha Acids:
- 11–14%
Beta Acids:
- 7–9%
Aroma & Flavor Notes:
- Citrus: Clean grapefruit, lime, and orange zest
- Blackcurrant: Subtle blackcurrant or dark berry
- Fruit: Pear, apple, and ripe stone fruit
- Spicy: Gentle spice, black pepper
- Herbal: Soft tea-like herbal quality
- Other: Mild floral, and a smooth, earthy, clean background
Brewing Characteristics:
- One of the main American bittering hops (high alpha, clean and reliable)
- Adds a moderate and very clean bitterness even at high IBU
- In late and dry hopping, provides a mild but pleasant blend of citrus, stone fruit, and berry, especially when balanced with other US aroma hops
- Stable, reliable, and widely available—used in a tremendous range of beer styles
