- Named after Michigan’s iconic Mackinac Island
Type:
- Aroma hop (modern, expressive, great in late and dry hopping)
Typical Alpha Acids:
- 10–12%

- 3–4%
Aroma & Flavor Notes:
- Tropical Fruit: Huge pineapple, candied mango, papaya
- Citrus: Orange, tangerine, and zesty lemon/lime
- Pine: Subtle resinous pine
- Berry: Sweet strawberry and mixed berry
- Other: Sometimes a soft herbal background, or sweet, almost candy-like sweetness
Brewing Characteristics:
- Known for its ultra-juicy “fruit punch” character, with an emphasis on big tropical and lush citrus, finished by pineapple
- Performs beautifully as a single hop or in blends, especially in hazy/juicy styles
- Bold and expressive in whirlpool and dry hop, but also solid flavor/bittering potential
Best Beer Styles:
- IPA, Hazy IPA, Pale Ale
- Blonde Ale, Summer Ale
- Wheat Beer, Fruity Lager
- Session Ales
Substitutes:
- Citra (for tropical, citrusy, fruity focus)
- Mosaic (for blend of pine/citrus/tropical/berry)
- El Dorado (softer, sweeter fruit, less punchy pineapple)
