Brewing Characteristics:
- Chinook is legendary for bittering (clean, sharp, strong) and offers memorable, bold aroma when used in late additions or dry hopping
- Brings intensity to West Coast IPA, American Pale Ale, and strong beers; also plays well solo or in blends
- Used widely in classic West Coast, Black, and even historical Pre-Prohibition American lagers
Best Beer Styles:
- IPA (West Coast, Double/Imperial, Black IPA)
- American Pale Ale, Amber Ale, Brown Ale
- Porter, Stout, Barleywine
- Classic Lager and Cream Ale (for American craft “twist”)
Substitutes:
- Columbus/CTZ (dank, but less pine and more orange/herb)
- Nugget (herbal, less aggressive pine/citrus)
- Simcoe (similar pine, more fruit/lighter bitterness)
