- Tropical Fruit: Tangerine, pineapple, mango, and tropical stone fruit
- Citrus: Orange, lemon, lime
- Herbal: Mint, lemongrass, and sometimes thyme
- Stone Fruit: Apricot, peach, and a bit of creamy pear
- Other: Cedar, cream, sometimes subtle vanilla or woodsy aromas
Brewing Characteristics:
- Known for its “exotic,” modern palette—a true standout among newer American hops
- Delivers layered complexity, with creamy coconut mixing with bright citrus and juicy tropical notes
- Especially powerful and memorable in late hop additions and dry hopping
- Used in a variety of beer styles to create unique, memorable, fruit-forward profiles
Best Beer Styles:
- IPA, Hazy IPA, NEIPA
- Pale Ale, Wheat Beer
- Blonde Ale, Cream Ale
- Fruity Lagers & Sours
- Creative Beer/Cider Hybrids
Substitutes:
- HBC 472 (some coconut/wood but less citrus)
- Cashmere (for tropical, less coconut)
- Sabro is truly unique—no perfect substitute
Fun Fact:
Sabro’s wild origin gives it flavor notes not found in any other commercial hop. Many brewers use it sparingly: its unique coconut and tangerine can be bold—even a little “mind blowing”—in hazy and modern juicy IPAs.
